Are you making God into a vitamin?

I know sometimes when my life has gotten busy, or I just don't seem to have a spiritual "drive," I'll half-heartedly get into my devotional time because I "know it's good for me." At those times, I treated spending time with God like it was a chore I was pretending to enjoy, but was mostly doing because it was something I had told myself I needed to do simply because it was important.

But God doesn't want to be a vitamin. God WANTS us to WANT Him. Sure, you might get some decent stuff from that "vitamin" time, but the REAL nutrition comes from a REAL desire to know Him.

"And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ." (Colossians 3:23-24)

I know it can sometimes be difficult to have that desire, especially when life is hectic, but, just be honest with Him and let Him know you want to desire Him. Ask Him to give you that desire.

"Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass." (Psalm 37:4-5)
